Dr. Deborah Bernay is a certified Glaucoma Specialist and Therapeutic Optometrist. She has been in private practice optometry for the entirety of her 27 year optometric career. She has recently moved and expanded La Porte Vision Center to the Sylvan Wellness Center, allowing Dr. Fagala and Dr. Galos to join the practice. Dr. Bernay received both her Bachelor’s Degree and Doctorate of Optometry from the University of Houston. She is two-time past president of the Harris County Optometric Association, has been a member of the Texas Optometric Association since 1978, and American Optometric Association since 1981. She was awarded the Young Optometrist of the Year Award for the State of Texas in 1997. She has also served as adjunct clinical faculty at the College of Optometry since 1992. She has been the State Leader for InfantSEE, a national program designed to ensure that eye and vision care become an integral part of infant wellness, since 2004. Service organizations have always been an integral part of Dr. Bernay’s life. She is the two-time past President of the Bay Area Pilot Club, and three-time past President of the La Porte Noon Optimist Club. She is a member and past Vice-President of the La Porte Bayshore Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Bernay also enjoys serving as a Catholic educator for the elementary and junior high programs at the St. Paul Catholic Church in Nassau Bay, and has done so for over fifteen years. Dr. Bernay has been married to her husband John Emeric for thirty years. Together, they have a daughter, Ruth Elizabeth (20), and son Michael Anthony (16).
